While in Ghana, Patoranking pursued his music and also applied to the University of Cape Coast, well knowing he could not afford it but hopeful by the time enrollment came around he would have funds. Unfortunately, he did not have the funds to afford the university fees. Mentioning that “I didn’t choose music, music chose me,” he returned to Nigeria to pursue a music career full time. He managed to find some success working with smaller labels, however, many of them didn’t understand his Afro-Reggae sound, which was unique at the time and different from Afrobeats, the most popular music genre on the continent.

However, his big break came when when he was signed into Dem MAMA Records owned by award-winning artist Timaya, On 12 September 2013, Patoranking released the audio and video for “Alubarika” simultaneously. Timaya who featured on his song “Alubarika,” meaning God’s blessings, and who let Patoranking stay with him at his house. “Alubarika” was a great success and Patroanking says: “God really did bless me as that was the turning point for me and my family.” He noted. The music video for “Alubarika” was shot by AJE Films and ran for 4 minutes and 16 seconds.

His success with the song gave him the determination to do better and he went ahead to sign a record deal with Foston Musik in 2014 after his affiliation with Dem Mama Records came to an end. Patoranking released “Girlie O” as his first song with Foston Mizik in February 2014. A remix of the song which featured vocals from Tiwa Savage followed suit some months later.

Wale released songs almost everyday on his social media handles free to download and would performed them in small communities in Accra mostly in Nima. He started gaining slow attention again with songs like “Telephone No” “Anastasia” “My Eyes Pon Di Money” and others. Wale then successfully toured Canada and United States in 2014.

The Guardian qualified “Wine Ya Waist” featuring Nigerian Music star Davido among its five must listened new tracks from around the world. By 2015, without a doubt, he has cemented his place on the global music space as a force to reckon with in dance hall music with a solid repertoire of hit songs that were receiving international awards and nominations which some includes; International Reggae & World Music Awards, Nigeria Entertainment Awards, MOBO and lot more.

He toured Europe in 2015, and also shared the same stage with P-Square, Flavor and others at the Wembley Arena in London.

2016, Shatta Wale became one of the most sought out artists in Ghana. His songs were used in political campaigns. That year two parties used two of his songs as their party campaign songs. Political parties like National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party used his hit songs; “Mahama Paper” and “Kakai” to run their campaign in the 2016 general election. Songs that were released from his Album After The Storm, were hits in Ghana. 2017 he traveled to the United States to promote After The Storm Album then went to Jamaica to shoot some music videos. In 2018 he signed to Zylofon Music in January 2018 and he released his third studio album which he titled REIGN. This album appeared on the Billboard Top World Albums Chart, placing sixth.
