Trolls punch down on Paige Spiranac, calling her “fat and ugly” after sexiest woman alive nod

Ex-pro golfer Paige Spiranac was named the Sexiest Woman Alive this month by the highly popular Maxim magazine, and since then she has received a huge backlash from internet trolls who want to disrespect her just because.

Internet trolls

One of the best things about the internet is anonymity, at the same time, that is one of the worst things as well when it comes to accountability for one’s actions, and it’s in situations like these where people take advantage of that and spray their hateful words to people that they don’t even know.

They have called her fat and ugly

Paige has declared that she’s been dealing with very hurtful messages, some even tell her that she is “fat” and “ugly”.

She used her podcast to convey a message

In her podcast called Playing-A-Round, she revealed that she used to get bullied at school because she would lose hair constantly and that created a sense of low self-esteem while she was growing up.

She said she was going through a period of “intense ups and downs”

On the microphone of her podcast she shared her experience “It’s just been highs and lows of emotion [since the news].

They never prepare you for the backlash

“What people don’t prepare you for, is when they name you the ‘sexiest woman alive’, you have hundreds of thousands of people telling you why you SHOULDN’T be the sexiest woman alive”

“I mean it’s such an exciting thing..and I don’t think everyone should say ‘she is the sexiest woman alive. I don’t even think that I am!”

She doesn’t believe it still

“How am I named this when Angelina Jolie exists in this world?

“So I’m already feeling a bit insecure about everything and then you have thousands of people being like ‘you’re ugly, you’re fat, you’re this, you’re that’.

“It’s like okay, am I?! It’s been days of feeling these intense ups and downs, wanting to be excited about [the award] but also having these emotions”

“People were asking ‘why aren’t you tweeting about the US Open’, and I was like, I cannot open social media right now”.

She’s been wrongfully bullied, slut shamed, harassed, and even gotten death threats

“I’ve been bullied my entire life. I get slut shamed, I get harassed, I get death threats for wearing the stuff that I do.

“No one ever looks at the person I am or the good work that I do.

“People say these things and think they’re funny or it has no effect on that person and think words don’t mean anything but words cut deep, they really do.”
