He coaching career started as a defensive coordinator at Western Kentucky in 1967. Glanville became a defensive end and outside linebackers coach at Georgia Tech from 1968 to 1973.
His first NFL coaching job came as a defensive assistant and special teams coach with the Detroit Lions from 1974 to 1976. Glanville was a defensive backs coach with the Atlanta Falcons from 1977 to 1978 and their defensive coordinator from 1979 to 1982.
