Football pies

These tasty pies are cooked in small, round foil tins – just like the ones you get at football games.


For the pastry

  • 250g/9oz plain flour, plus extra for dusting
  • pinch salt
  • 125g/4½oz chilled butter, cubed
  • 2 medium egg yolks
  • 1 free-range egg, beaten for egg wash

For the filling

  • splash of oil, for frying
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 500g/1lb 2oz lean steak mince
  • 1 tbsp tomato purée
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 200ml/7fl oz beef stock
  • a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 100g/3½oz frozen peas
  • salt and pepper
